Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore correlation between the experiences of elderly who participate in festival and leisure activities. For this purpose, depth interview with 20 retired elderly who use community welfare center as well as have experiences participating in festival. Grounded theory approach of Strauss and Corbin(1998) was used to collect and analyze the data. The result of this study was that 142 concepts, 37 sub-categories and 15 categories were showed by open coding process. As a result of Axial Coding, the elderly have undergone the central phenomenon like a positive self-recognition since they did leisure activity, then finally reach consequences such as motivation, continuous leisure activity and positive leisure activity in later life. Also, as a result of selective coding, three kinds of types were emerged about participating in leisure activities and festival which are ¡°Organization oriented group¡±, ¡°Self-development and Learning group¡± and ¡°Social being group¡±, In conclusion, this study has academic achievements since it establishes a theoretical foundation through classifying the participating types in leisure and festival as well as it can suggest the practical implication in terms of considering a possibility of festival applying value as the intervention strategy.
